[edit]From Proto-Albanian *džārnā with long *ā < *ē, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷerh₃- (“to swallow”). Close to Lithuanian žarnà (“gut”), Latvian zarna (“intestines”), Old Norse gǫrn (“gut”).[1] Alternatively from *ǵʰer- (“guts, entrails, bowels, intestine”).
