Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Slavic *zobati, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *gab- (to watch, show).[1] Cognate with Proto-West Germanic *kapēn (to watch, to look), Proto-Germanic *kōpijaną (to look after, care for).
