zhurmë

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Albanian

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Uncertain. Similar to Proto-Slavic *šumъ, comparing it to Serbo-Croatian šum. However the presence of a -r-, the irregular correspondence zh-š and the lack of a Slavic cognate in Romanian, shows that the word is not of Slavic origin. Compare Italian ciurma.
