Etymology
[edit]Uncertain. Possibly derived from/cognated with a Old Occitan/Celtiberian stratum. Compare Latin gurdus (“dolt, numbskull, blockhead, dullard”), Norman gourd (“numb maladroit”) for the -gurdu part; and Spanish zahúrda (“pigsty”). Cfr., for a similar morphology, Italian balordo, Spanish palurdo, or Italian manigoldo/mundualdo.
