[edit]From Proto-Hmong *ʔjɔŋᴮ (“mosquito”).[1] Possibly cognate with Middle Chinese 蠅 (MC ying, “fly”);[2] compare also Thai ยุง (yung, “mosquito”), Lao ຍຸງ (nyung, “id”).
