Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish یوق بهاسنه (yoḳ bahasına, pahasına)[1] or یوق بهایه (yoḳ bahaya, pahaya),[2] from یوق (yoḳ) + بها (baha, paha)[3][4] equivalent to yok (“there isn't, not, none”) + paha (“price, cost, value”) + -(s)ı (“possessive suffix with "s" as buffer consonant”) + -(n)a (“dative suffix with "n" as buffer consonant”), literally “for the price of nothing, for no price”.
