[edit]From Middle Chinese 鸚鵡 (ʔˠɛŋ mɨoX) + 子 (MC tsiX). Cognate with Tocharian B yāmuttsi and Sogdian 𐼷𐼽𐼺𐼰𐼴𐽂𐼼𐼷 (yʿmʾwtsy /ēmūtsi/).[1]
