Etymology

From xeno- (From a donor of another species) +‎ intoxication. The term first appeared as a translation of Spanish xenointoxicación, both attested in an Argentinan research article in December 1948.[1][2]

  1. (uncommon) A form of pest control in which an ectoparasite's host animal is dosed with a substance that is poisonous to the parasite.
