[edit]From Old Frisian *wiūke, from Proto-West Germanic *weukā (“bundle of flax, tow, plug, braid, fuse, wick”), related to Saterland Frisian Juke, Juuk (“wing, swinging arm, pinion”), Dutch wiek (“wing”), Old English wēoce (whence English wick).
