Crimean Gothic

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From Proto-Germanic *windaz. Stearns argues that the spelling is a misprint for unattested *wintsch; Krause & Slocum further argue that the final -sch may be pronounced /s/ and indicate the survival into Crimean Gothic of the Proto-Germanic nominative singular ending Proto-Germanic *-az, which had otherwise been lost in contemporary Germanic languages.[1]
