[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Middle Dutch wintbrauwe, from Old Dutch *wintbrāwa. The first element (Old Dutch *wint) is unknown but presumed to be related to Ancient Greek ἴονθος (íonthos). The second element (Old Dutch *brāwa) is from Proto-Germanic *brēwō.
Wenkbrauw is a doublet of wimper (“eyelash”), from a contraction. The first element wenk is related to wenken (“wave with body movements”).
