From Middle Dutch [Term?]; contains the prefix ver-. The element -wittig- represents the Middle Dutch adjective wittich, deriving from Proto-West Germanic *witīg and relating to the modern verb weten.

  • More commonly used in the southern Dutch-speaking areas, especially Flanders, but universally understood. Also more prevalent in Suriname. The more commonly used synonyms in northern Netherlands and elsewhere are informeren and laten weten.
