Appearance
Icelandic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From vera (meaning "to be") + fyrir (meaning "in the way").
Verb
[edit]- to be in the way
- Þú ert fyrir.
- You are in the way.
- Þú ert fyrir mér.
- You are in my way.
- Er ég fyrir þér?
- Am I in your way?
- Ekki vera fyrir, stráksi.
- Don't be in the way, kiddo.
Usage notes
[edit]- This verb phrase is a little difficult, as the basic phrase vera fyrir ("be in the way") can split up throughout the sentence, e.g example er ég fyrir þér? (am I in your way?).
- Saying er ég þér fyrir (am I [to] you in the way) meaning "am I in your way" can be said, though it sounds archaic.
