Etymology

From Proto-Germanic *warmaz, whence also Old English wearm, Old Saxon warm, Old Frisian warm, Old High German warm. Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰer- (warm, hot) or alternatively *wer- (to burn).
