[edit]From Proto-Nuristani *wāsī (due to the absence of a final vowel), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hwā́siH (“dwelling, staying”), feminine of *Hwāsás, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂wes- (“to stay”). Compare Sanskrit वास (vāsá, “dwelling, staying”).
