[edit]From Old Swedish vanger, from Old Norse vangr, whence also Danish vang, Icelandic vangur, from Proto-Germanic *wangaz (“meadow”), whence also Old English wang, Gothic 𐍅𐌰𐌲𐌲𐍃 (waggs).
