Saterland Frisian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Old Frisian *oversetta, from Proto-West Germanic *ubarsattjan, equivalent to uur- + sätte (“to set”). Cognates include English overset, Dutch overzetten, and German übersetzen.
The sense "to translate" is a semantic loan from Middle Low German oversetten, itself a calque of Latin traducere.
