- the act of assuming the identity of deceased person (whether to gain access to their resources, to avoid being detected by a pursuer, e.g. a legal authority, or other purpose);
- the arrangement of circumstances by the culprit (who wishes, for whatever reason, to be believed dead) such that a corpse is thought to be the culprit's own.
