[edit]From uforsonlig + -het, firt part u- from Old Norse ú-, ó-, from Proto-Germanic *un-, from Proto-Indo-European *n̥-, a prefix use of the particle *ne (“not”) + uforsonlig from the verb forsone (“reconcile”), from Middle Low German vorsōnen or German versöhnen (“reconcile”), from Middle High German versüenen, versuonen, from Old High German firsuonen. Last part from Middle Low German -heit, from Proto-Germanic *haiduz (“manner, way”), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)keyt-, *(s)keydʰ- (“clear, bright, shining”).
