Swedish

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

tyngd (weight) +‎ punkt (point)

Noun

[edit]

tyngdpunkt c

  1. (physics) a center of gravity
  2. (somewhat figuratively) a main focus, a main emphasis
I sin recension lägger han tyngdpunkten på restaurangens kebabsås
In his review, he places the main focus on the restaurant's kebab sauce

Usage notes

[edit]

Usually in the sense of "thing most focused on" rather than "most important thing" in (sense 2). The thinking is more along the lines of "the point where someone puts the weight (focus)," just from the components of the word.
