[edit]Etymology
[edit]Noun
[edit]tusental n
- around one thousand
- Ett tusental människor fick evakueras
- Around one thousand people had to be evacuated
- thousands
- Om summan av hundratalen är större än tusen läggs en minnessiffra till tusentalen
- If the sum of the hundreds is greater than one thousand, a carry is added to the thousands
- (usually in the definite "tusentalet", and mostly also with the word ett: "ettusental(et)") the 1000s (one thousands), the years 1000 to 1999; almost the same period as det andra millenniet ("the second millennium") which, however, was from year 1001 to (the end of) year 2000
Usage notes
[edit]3)"Tusentalet"/"Ettusentalet" is often used to refer to the years 1000 to 1099, almost the same period as det elfte seklet ("the eleventh century", which, however, is the years 1001 to 1100). However, the years 1000 to 1099 should, rather than (et)tusentalet, be referred to as tiohundratalet ("the ten hundreds"), to avoid confusion with the period ending with year 1999.
