[edit]Inherited from Old Norse [Term?]. Compare Icelandic þrúga f (“human snowshoe”), Old Norse þrjúgr m and Norwegian Nynorsk truge f (“human snowshoe”). The Norwegian word in some areas had original use as the Swedish one, but now means a snowshoe made for humans (not horses).
