Borrowed from Arabic تُرْمُس (turmus), from Aramaic תורמוסא / ܬܘܪܡܣܐ (tūrmūsā, lupine), from Akkadian 𒋻𒄷 (TAR.MUŠ8 /⁠tarmuš⁠/), from Sumerian 𒋻𒄷 (TAR.MUŠ8 /⁠tarmuš⁠/). Also found as Ancient Greek θέρμος (thérmos) and Coptic ⲑⲁⲣⲙⲟⲩⲥ (tharmous) and in the taxonomical Lupinus albus subsp. termis.
