- Put on a shirt!
- a T-shirt
- a sweater, a jumper
- Synonyms: tjocktröja, (uncommon) sweater
- a sweatshirt
- Synonyms: sweatshirt, collegetröja, tjocktröja
- a hoodie
- Synonyms: huvtröja, hoodie, tjocktröja
- a jerkin, a doublet
Usage notes
[edit]- Like the loose meaning of shirt in American English, but also extending to sweaters and the like. A non-outerwear, "everyday" upper-body garment worn for warmth, usually pulled over the head.
- A T-shirt would often be qualified as t-shirt or t-tröja. The immediate intuition is a sweater or sweatshirt.
- Tjocktröja excludes T-shirts and the like – a (usually comparatively thicker) "outer" garment within the category of tröja. A thin long-sleeve garment might get called a "långärmad [long-sleeve] tröja" instead, though it's bound to be a bit fuzzy.
