Etymology

From Old Danish thrængia, from Old Norse (east) þrengja, (west) þrøngva, from Proto-Germanic *þrangwijaną (to press, push), cognate with Norwegian trenge, Swedish tränga, German drängen. A causative of *þrinhwaną (to press, to push).
