[edit]Borrowed from Malay tempoh, tempo, from Classical Malay تمڤه (tempoh), Dutch tempo from Italian tempo, or from Portuguese tempo, ultimately from Latin tempus (“time”), from Proto-Indo-European *tempos (“stretch”), from the root *temp- (“to stretch, string”).
