Borrowed from Malay tempoh, tempo, from Classical Malay تمڤه (tempoh), Dutch tempo from Italian tempo, or from Portuguese tempo, ultimately from Latin tempus (time), from Proto-Indo-European *tempos (stretch), from the root *temp- (to stretch, string).
