[edit]From German Thymian, Russian тимья́н (timʹján), Polish tymianek, all from Ancient Greek θῡμῐ́ᾱμᾰ (thūmíāma, “that which is burned for incense”). Compare Latin thȳmiāma (“incense, fumigant”).
