Borrowed from Middle English tights, from tight, from Old English *þiht, from Proto-West Germanic *þį̄ht(ī), from Proto-Germanic *þinhtaz, from Proto-Indo-European *ten- (to stretch, pull). Doublet of tyn (tight).
