[edit]From Ottoman Turkish طاوقجی (tavuḳcu, “a poulterer”),[1] from Ottoman Turkish طاوقجی (tavuḳ, “a fowl, hen”), from Proto-Turkic *tiakïgu (“hen, fowl”),[2] equivalent to tavuk (“chicken”) + -çu (“occupation suffix”).
