Cardinal: tʰai⁵⁵ Ordinal: nam³¹pat⁵⁵ tə̆.tʰai⁵⁵ |
Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *ts(j)i(j) ~ tsjaj (“ten”). Cognate with Burmese ဆယ် (hcai, “ten”), Nuosu ꊰ (ci, “ten”), Lisu ꓞꓲꓻ (tsʰɨ, “ten”), Zhaba tsʰɿ⁵⁵ (“ten”) and Jingpho shi (“ten”). Compare Lhao Vo daxe, Zaiwa ce, Longchuan Achang tɕhe⁵⁵ and Hpon tᴜ̀ʔʃíh.
Pronunciation
[edit]Numeral
[edit]tʰai⁵⁵
Usage notes
[edit]Just like in Chinese and Burmese, tʰai⁵⁵ requires modification by a cardinal numeral. Thus, for "(one) ten", tə̆.tʰai⁵⁵ ("tə̆" is a reduced form of ta³¹("one")) should be used (cf. Burmese တဆယ် (ta.hcai, “ten”)).
