Etymology

[edit]

From Arabic اِسْتَراحَ (istarāḥa), a tenth stem from the root ر و ح (r-w-ḥ). In Maltese, a new root s-r-ħ was derived from this, perhaps to some degree by merger with Arabic س ر ح (s-r-ḥ), which is generally related to “moving”, but has some related senses like “grazing” and “being free from trouble”.
