German
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Middle High German strūben, from Old High German strūbēn / strūben, from Proto-West Germanic *strūbijan. Related to struwwelig and struppig; outside of Germanic, compare perhaps Ancient Greek στρυφνός (struphnós, “sour, harsh”), Lithuanian strùbas (“cut short, curtailed”), and Russian струп (strup, “scab”).
