[edit]Borrowed from Middle High German smuk, smuck “flexible, accommodating, pretty, nice” or from Middle Dutch smuc “pretty, nice, clean” (cf. German Schmuck “jewelry, ornament”), first mentioned in 18th-century dictionaries.[1]
