[edit]Probably from Proto-Indo-European *k⁽ʷ⁾sewbʰ- (“to shake”). Cognate with Latvian skubrs (“hasty”), as well as dialectal Lithuanian skubrùs (“lively”); outside of Baltic, possibly related to Proto-Germanic *skeubaną (“to push, drive”), Proto-Slavic *skuti (“to pluck”), Sanskrit क्षुभ् (kṣubh, “to shake”).[1]
