Etymology

Probably from Proto-Indo-European *k⁽ʷ⁾sewbʰ- (to shake). Cognate with Latvian skubrs (hasty), as well as dialectal Lithuanian skubrùs (lively); outside of Baltic, possibly related to Proto-Germanic *skeubaną (to push, drive), Proto-Slavic *skuti (to pluck), Sanskrit क्षुभ् (kṣubh, to shake).[1]
