[edit]From either Proto-Albanian *sternā, from Proto-Indo-European *ster-neh₂, or Proto-Albanian *sterjā, from Proto-Indo-European *stér-ih₂ ~ *str̥-yéh₂-s, both from Proto-Indo-European *ster- (“barren”). Alternatively borrowed from Romanian știră (“sterile”).[1]
