scarnafol
Appearance
Old High German
[edit]Etymology
[edit]scarna + fol. First element from Proto-Germanic *skarną (“filth, dung”), second from Proto-Germanic *fullą (“cup, beaker”), literally ‘cup of shit’. Attested in a 1003 AD charter as an apparent proof of vestigial knowledge of Lombardic long after the people had assimilated to Italo-Roman society.
