[edit]Borrowed from Kapampangan sayad (“run aground like a boat”), from Proto-Philippine *saʀyad (“to drag as a boat scraping bottom”). Compare Ilocano sagayad / sagirad / saringgayad, Pangasinan sagar, Bikol Central sagyad, Aklanon sagyad, Cebuano sangyad, Hiligaynon sangyad, and Western Bukidnon Manobo sagyad. Doublet of sagyat and sanggayad.
