From Ottoman Turkish سراج (sarac, saddler, saddlemaker), itself from Arabic سَرَّاج (sarrāj, saddler), ultimately from Aramaic סַרָּגָא (sarrāgā) (in Classical Syriac ܣܰܪܳܓܳܐ), from סְרַג (srag, to bind, to plait) (in Classical Syriac ܣܪܰܓ).
