[edit]Etymology
[edit]From sala + din, according to the Vocabulario de lengua tagala (1613). Alternatively, from sala + -rin according to Potet (2013), with an irregular insertion of intervocalic /ɾ/, where /h/ is normally placed between the root and the suffix except where there is a glottal stop. Potet finds this form as abnormal with the irregular -rin suffix so surmises this term to be influenced by Sanskrit अपचारिन् (apacārin, “infidel; wicked”), while infixed with -अल्- (-al-).[1]
