[edit]Inherited from Old Swedish søtma, oblique singular of søtme, from Old East Norse *sœtmi, *sǿtmi, from Proto-Germanic *swōtmô. Cognate of Norwegian Bokmål sødme and Old Frisian swētma. Equivalent to söt (“sweet”) + -ma; compare fetma.
