Borrowed from older German Roulanz, from French rouler. Originally in the sense of circulation of money in (sense 1).

  1. (somewhat colloquial, usually in the definite) ongoing (usually commercial, but also more general) operations (often involving circulation in some sense, for example of customers or goods); running, operations, business, commerce, etc.

    Det har varit en otrolig ruljangs i mellandagarna

Usage notes

"Roll" might provide intuition. Likely intuitively connected to rulla (roll) by many native speakers as well (in addition to being etymologically connected).
