[edit]From a phonetic adaptation of English rickshaw, from Japanese 力車 (rikisha), an abbreviation of 人力車 (jinrikisha, literally “vehicle pulled by a person's power”), from Middle Chinese 人 (nyin, “person”) + 力 (lik, “strength, power”) + 車 (tsyhæ, “cart, vehicle”).
