[edit]From Middle Irish roinded, rannaid (“parts, separates; distributes, apportions”) (compare Irish and Scottish Gaelic roinn), from Old Irish rannaid, a verbalization of rann (compare Irish and Scottish Gaelic rann), from Proto-Celtic *ɸrasnā (compare Welsh rhan (“part”)).
