- Akin to Lithuanian šliùrti (“to become dirty”), with the terms sharing a tentative late root Proto-Indo-European *ḱlew-r-.[1]
- Akin to Lithuanian krèkti (“to coagulate, clot”).[2]
- Borrowed from Ottoman Turkish كیر (kir, “dirt”).[3]
