[edit]Alteration of earlier cajigo, from Asturian caxigu (“oak”), from Proto-Celtic *cassicu (compare Aragonese caixico), from *cass- (“twisted, gnarled”) (compare Irish cas (“to twist”)); akin to French chêne (“oak”).
