- A bone found in some reptiles, amphibians, and birds in front of the quadrate at the base of the temporal fossa.
- 1900 November, Charles E. Beecher, “Restoration of Stylonurus Lacanus, A Giant Arthropod from the Upper Devonian of the United States”, in Geological Magazine, volume 7, number 11, page 490:
- It could not have participated in the formation of the lateral temporal foramen; that office was reserved to the quadratojugular lying in front of it, which in its turn is connected again with the peculiarly shaped jugular.
