Etymology
[edit]If Arabic, perhaps from أَقْلَقَ (ʔaqlaqa), قَلَّقَ (qallaqa, “to upset, disconcert”). Or alternatively from قَرَّعَ (qarraʕa, “to blame, repoach; to win a bet”) with assimilation of the third radical to the first; compare also related قَرَعَ (qaraʕa, “to strike; to impugn; to reject a suitor in marriage”).
