Etymology

[edit]

Borrowed from Italian punto e basta (literally period and that's it) via Danish punktum og basta.

Basta is not used in other contexts in modern Icelandic, and so many speakers (particularly children) instead say punktur og pasta (literally period and pasta).

Interjection

[edit]

punktur og basta

  1. and that's final!, end of discussion!
    Synonyms: hana nú, ekkert múður
