[edit]From the taxonomic name for the family, itself derived from the name of the type genus Psittacosaurus, coined in 1923 by Henry Fairfield Osborn from Ancient Greek ψιττακός (psittakós, “parrot”) + Ancient Greek σαύρα (saúra, “lizard”), due to its parrot-like beak.
