[edit]Borrowed from Italian porcospino, from Vulgar Latin *porcospinus, calque of Ancient Greek ἀκανθόχοιρος (akanthókhoiros), from ἄκανθα (ákantha, “spine”) + χοῖρος (khoîros, “pig”).
